Horror comedy 'Block', is a playfully dark film which sucks us into the surreal vortex of a struggling writer’s mind. Creatively unfulfilled ghost writer, Shelley, seeks the solace of an isolated rented mansion in the remote British countryside to finally write her own novel, only to find the silence merely intensifies her crippling self-doubt. Shelley descends into a downward spiral as the more she battles her writer’s block the worse it becomes and the more she seeks distraction around the desolate house. But, unbeknown to Shelley, as soon as she leaves the creative torture of her laptop it begins to take on a life of its own, seemingly controlling everything in the house. Alone in the huge empty house, Shelley finds the peaceful sanctuary she’d longed for has come alive with unexplained happenings and mysterious visitors. Shelley’s life’s ambition to write her own story and perhaps her life itself hangs in the balance as the mysterious force and her demons close in.

About the Project

The script for 'BLOCK' came about by accident; the therapy (distraction) I needed after hitting a crushing creative wall while writing a feature film screenplay. When making 'BLOCK', I wanted it to encapsulate the rollercoaster of emotions involved when trying to create – the promises to ourselves we make and break, the self-doubt, the self-flagellation, the fear of failure…and the notion that your best ideas come when you free your mind of those paralysing demons. 
The key influences for the film were the anthology series Inside Number 9 and Black Mirror, which both seek to explore complex conceptual ideas through intimate human stories. 

Director's Statement

Oisin Tyson is an award-winning advertising director and screenwriter. Previously, Oisin was a television writer, producer and director on global hit shows which earned him an International Emmy, four National Television Awards and two BAFTA nominations.
Oisin’s debut short film 'BLOCK', achieved official selection at several prestigious international film festivals. He is currently in pre-production of his second short 'Beached', and packaging his debut feature, 'Last Supper'.
